Open House on First Street

One of the cool things about living in a small town is that small towns tend to have all sorts of neat traditions that bring everyone out. Like our 4th of July parade (click here to see my post about the parade). Likewise, every first Friday night in December, the merchants on First Street host an open house of sorts. First Street is completely shut down to car traffic and vendors stay open until 9, serving apple cider, hot chocolate, candy canes, cotton candy, and many other sweet treats. You can find Santa at some of the offices, carolers along the street, and at the foot of First Street, a giant tree is lit, complete with a singing band. I've gone almost every year since I was 5 (except for my jaunt down in So Cal), so it's really fun to go with Nicholas. Lexi and Jeff stayed home since they weren't feeling too well, but Nicholas, my dad, and myself went. Nicholas had a lot of fun and was thoroughly hyped up on all sorts of sugar imaginable! Needless to say, he crashed when we got home and slept peacefully as visions of sugar plums danced through his head!
