Christmas Eve

This year we spent Christmas at home. It's great to travel, but sometimes it's also nice to be comfy in your own home and start new traditions. Since Nicholas is now almost 4 (gasp!) it was also fun to really start seeing Christmas through a bigger kids eyes.

Since my mom and dad live around the corner, it's also nice because we can split the hosting duties. We hosted Christmas Eve dinner at our house. It's easier since we can put the kids to bed and then the adults can hang out longer.

We started the evening with a champagne toast and appetizers. And, of course, some photo ops!

After, Nicholas and Lexi were able to each open one gift on Christmas Eve. Nicholas opened a Darth Vader mug (from us) and Lexi opened an Ariel (Little Mermaid) doll from Nicholas.

Super goof!

Auntie Becca also gave each kid a book for Christmas Eve. This is Lexi's.

After the presents, we hunkered down for some french onion soup and beef/prawn fondue. Our house still has the faint smell of oil in it, 3 days later!

Nicholas found the fondue fascinating!

Two silly guys

Nicholas finished dinner well before the rest of us, so I whipped him up some chocolate fondue and hot chocolate. He enjoyed his Christmas Eve dessert at the coffee table, watching Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, while the big people finished up dinner.

Before bedtime, we put out cookies and milk for Santa, as well as carrots and water for the reindeer. Then, Nicholas went outside with Auntie Ray-Ray to sprinkle "reindeer food" on the lawn. It's really a mixture of oatmeal and glitter, but the poem states that the food will sparkle and lead the reindeer to your home. One of Nicholas' friends from preschool passed out the baggies of reindeer food last week. It was really cute and great new tradition to start.

We had a great time hosting Christmas Eve at our house!
