Visiting the Wild West

One of the highlights of Nicholas' preschool is their imaginary field trip they do every year. The teachers spend one whole day literally transforming the entire building into the featured destination. Last year, the kids visited Hawaii. This year, the theme was the Wild West. In the weeks leading up to the imaginary trip the kids learn about their destination and create projects around the theme. One day the kids made butter; another day they created horseshoe prints. When the day finally came for their trip, each child had to pack up a suitcase with three items to take on the trip. Nicholas packed a police badge, homemade lasso created by his friend Mason's dad, handcuffs, and binoculars...okay, we exceeded the three item limit. Let's just say, the wonderful teachers at Happy Hearts outdid themselves. The school looked awesome! And Nicholas had SO much fun. He said his favorite part of the Wild West was panning for gold and using his gold to purchase an item from the trading post. So glad we'll have two more imaginary trips with Lexi, who will start preschool in the fall...plus two more with baby #3 down the road!

Their craft room was turned into a campfire and cookout

The painting easel wall was turned into a jail with all of the teachers as Wanted posters

Nicholas' favorite teacher, and my best friend, Kacy

The block room was turned into a barn and stable

Lexi took the opportunity to test out some of the games

As you can imagine, she did not want to leave the Wild West once our preview was over

The circle room was transformed into a gold mining camp...complete with trading post

The snack room tables were made into covered wagons. The kids feasted on frank and beans, cornbread, lemonade, and trail mix. Nicholas said he liked everything except the beans....because they weren't edamame beans. Do you think Nicholas would have survived in the Wild West with his persnickety taste? ;-)

How cute is that! I can see why Nicholas loved it (and Lexi too)
