Family Wine Tasting Day? Yes please!

Jeff, the kids, and myself made a spur of the moment trip up to St. Helena last weekend after an invitation from our good friends, the McNapipers. They suggested a family wine tasting day. I'd been wanting to go to wine country this summer, but we just never got around to it. Of course, in my mind, this would be done sans kidlets. But, since that wasn't possible, family wine tasting day it was!

The first winery, Frog's Leap, was awesome! The perfect location for the kids to run around and the adults to enjoy our beverages. The tasting area was on the porch of an AMAZING house that overlooked an equally amazing vegetable garden. This place looked like a scene out of a William Sonoma or Pottery Barn catalog...seriously! Julie and I were envious of the sheer variety of produce they were growing...and growing well. The kids loved running through the garden, hiding amongst the fruit trees, and visiting the rather noisy chickens and roosters (well, Lexi didn't, but only because those suckers were loud!). The winery provided the kids with juice pouches and even brought out a plastic lawn bowling set to keep the wee ones busy. They obviously know that their wine room is a popular place for families.

Afterward we went to Sequoia Grove winery. We had a picnic in the grass and then the kids had fun playing with the bean bag toss game the winery had out for their wine dinner later in the evening. The weather made the day even better...not too hot, not too cold...a perfect autumn day in wine country!
