This past weekend was spent in Roseville (Sacramento area) for my cousin Ben's Bar Mitzvah. A bar mitzvah is a Jewish rite of passage, wherein a child becomes an adult by reading from the Torah. We drove up Friday (about an hour and a half drive) and spent the afternoon swimming at my aunt's house. Then we had dinner at Buca de Bepo that evening. Ben's ceremony was the following morning. It was almost 3 hours long, but both Lexi and Nicholas did a great job remaining quiet for most of the time. Nicholas even had a role...helping to open and close the ark (doors) that housed the Torah. In the evening we celebrated Ben's hard work at his reception. Nicholas enjoyed the DJed music and dancing. Before heading home on Sunday we enjoyed a brunch at my grandparent's house and further caught up with some of the out-of-towners that came in for the occassion.
We've had a busy few weekends and are now looking forward to a few quieter weekends at home. :-)
