Our family headed down to the LA area on February 19th to depart from San Pedro the following morning. We stayed that evening with Jeff's sister and Nicholas thoroughly enjoyed playing with his cousins, Hailey and Matthew. It was a nice chance to see everyone, even if it was only for half a day. Saturday we drove the remaining hour or so to San Pedro. Upon seeing the cruise ship, Nicholas broke out into enthusiastic giggles...he'd been very excited about going on the "cruise boat" for weeks and was overwhelmed by it's size.
The first two and a half days were spent at sea. Nicholas spent some time in the kids' room, which pleasantly surprised me. Parents are given pagers when they leave their kids, in case of meltdowns, and I kept expecting the pager to go off at any second, but the pager never did go off. Nicholas enjoyed playing with the video games and doing the art projects. Nicholas also enjoyed swimming. I am amazed at his fearlessness in the water. It's a little scary because he really has no idea that he can't officially swim yet. He'll jump in, fully submerge underwater, and jump right back out again. He must be part fish! :)
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were spent in the Mexican ports (Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas, respectively). In Puerto Vallarta we just walked around the Malacon. Lots of tourist shops. We didn't do much in that port...it was a little hard to do more than walk around with Lexi being as young as she is right now. All she wanted to do was crawl around, which was difficult to let her do when we were out in port. In Mazatlan we hired a driver and did a 5 hour tour around the town. We saw cliff divers, the Old Town section (complete with the authentic meat markets...can you say whole cows?), and then had lunch by the beach. It was nice to see part of the town at a leisurely pace. Our last day was in Cabo and we decided to do an excursion put on by the cruise line. We took the kids on a semi-sub tour around the harbor area. It was very much like the submarine ride at Disneyland, but it was thrilling for Nicholas, which is all that really matters.
We had a good time together as a family and are thankful to my grandparents, who made this great trip possible.
