Nicholas and I headed down south Memorial Day weekend, along with my parents. We were visiting my youngest sister, Becca, at college. My middle sister, Rachel, drove up from Irvine as well. The drive was about 3 1/2 hours long and Nicholas did a really good job of sitting in one place the whole time (much to my surprise!). It gives me hope for our plane flight to Boston in July!! :-)
On Saturday we ate lunch in Morro Bay and went to a small aquarium. There was a sea lion there that freaked Nicholas out. Granted, he was a noisy sea lion, but I've never seen Nicholas actually frightened about something before.
On Sunday we went to Santa Barbara. We went to the zoo first, which Nicholas loved. He kept saying "Whoa" anytime he saw new animal. We took a train ride around the zoo and played in a fun children's area. We then headed to State Street for some shopping, hoping he would fall asleep in his stroller...alas, no such luck. That night we headed back to SLO and had ice cream at an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, complete with a toy train that circled the ceiling of the restaurant. He LOVED that toy train....and could have cared less about the ice cream!
Before leaving on Monday we went to Avila Beach and went to a playground. We then went to Avila Barn, where they sold a variety of food and had animals you could feed. He loved feeding the goats, as well as trying to pet the calf. He also liked pretending to drive the forklift. We stopped at a winery on the way home, where Nicholas got a wine glass full of water (so grown up!).
Nicholas was a great, flexible traveler, and a lot of fun!
